Accenture is a global professional services company that provides strategy, consulting, digital, technology, and operations services. They work with clients in various industries to help them improve their performance and create sustainable value.

I experienced Accenture's product design simulator on Forage to get a better understanding of the day-to-day of being a product designer that caters to clients' needs.

Problem

Musik needed a way for their users to view their favorite songs' lyrics.

I was tasked with designing a lyric viewing component to the client's, Musik's, music app. Here are some of the tasks that were included in the simulator:
  • Created a board in Figma that mocks up a new component of an app
  • Iterated final screens
  • Analyzed existing design criteria to inform design
  • Developed a design rationale that communicated design process

How might we help Musik integrate a lyric-viewing feature in their music app?

Requirements

User Research

As a part of the first task, the design team established the first draft, but user research uncovered that users wanted to read and see lyrics while listening to the song.

The target audience is young adults who use iPhones, aged 16 to 21.

Existing Client Designs

I was provided with the team's stylistic direction and design files that I needed to emulate in my final designs.

Feature Requirements

The new product feature was to simply allow the user to view the lyrics on the music player screen.

Before choosing a single design, I explored various possibilities of what the lyric screens could look like:

Takeaways

Since this was a job simulator, it was nice knowing what a product designer at Accenture does and how they help clients across multiple industries achieve their goals.

I was excited to have some hands-on experience from a reputable company that prioritizes their clients' needs, making sure to adhere to the work that clients already have.

Overall, this was a good design exercise that helped me strengthen my technical skills in Figma while also refreshing my knowledge of Gestalt design principles.

The Future

  • How can additional user research help inform designs for clients?
